The Vision Bearer

From a young age, I (Ayoo Lillian Aliga) harbored a dream that would pursue educational and charitable objectives for the benefit of the public and shape generational lives in Uganda and Africa at large. When I was in primary four, my mother asked about my future career aspirations. With determination and clarity, I declared my desire to become an engineer and to one day establish a great institution dedicated to engineering and technology. Moved by her daughter's vision, my mother knelt down and prayed fervently for my dream to come true.
Years later, I fulfilled the first step of my dream by earning a diploma in Electrical Engineering. Alongside a few colleagues, I was selected for specialized electrical training in South Africa, an experience that broadened my horizons and deepened my understanding of both technical skills and life itself. Upon returning home, I and some few volunteers channeled my knowledge and passion into empowering youth and women in Kampala, particularly around Kitintale, Kamosha, Nakawa, Acholi Quarters. We initiated hands-on training programs in electronics, entrepreneurship skills such as cake making, jelly and bar soap production, and modern agricultural farming practices. These efforts were not just about skills development; they were the foundation for a larger vision.
In 2020, under the guidance of the Archbishop of Gulu Archdiocese (His Grace John Baptist Odama), My moved to Northern Uganda to establish a community-based organization aimed at uplifting local communities. This led to the creation of the Africanland Programme for Development and Empowerment Uganda (AFRIPODE-Uganda). From 2020 to 2023, AFRIPODE-Uganda provided vital services including agricultural skills training, technical skills development, and entrepreneurship training across four districts (Omoro, Nwoya, Amuru and Gulu) in West Acholi. Despite its impactful work, AFRIPODE-Uganda ceased operations in 2023 due to funding challenges.
Undeterred, my unwavering commitment to my dream persisted. In 2024, the vision was reignited and formalized with the registration of a new institution by the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB) on November 6, 2024 with support of Mr. Lual Bul Mabior Bul from South Sudan and other three coopted founders and various promoters. The institution was later renamed on June 12, 2025, as the Land of Africa University of Science, Engineering, and Technology (LAUSET) in order to shoot the main dream.
Following the complete registration, I and my team, along with two other promoters, convened between December 2024 and January 2025 to plan the next steps. We engaged the university’s lawyer, established a Board of Trustees, and formed a task force committee of technocrats to oversee legal matters, governance, and management.
LAUSET’s mission is to bridge the regional educational gaps in Northern Uganda, a region deeply affected by two decades of the post-traumatic Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) war. The university stands as a beacon of hope and renewal, dedicated to nurturing future generations in science, engineering, and technology.
In gratitude, I embrace the struggles and support of all individuals who have stood with me throughout this journey, extending appreciation to the 54 countries of the African continent under the African Union (formerly the Organization of African Unity), headquartered in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
LAUSET stands as the embodiment of my lifelong dream, a beacon of hope and a center of excellence dedicated to nurturing future generations in science, engineering, and technology. It is deeply rooted in the community empowerment principles that guided AFRIPODE-Uganda, continuing the mission to equip youth and women with the skills and knowledge necessary to transform their lives and communities’ transformation.
In conclusion, my journey from a young girl with a dream, through years of dedication and service, to the founding of LAUSET, is a testament to the power of vision, faith, and perseverance. May this story inspire all who believe in the transformative power of education and community development. I say all these for God and my country.
